Frequently asked questions

Can I have several short-term jobs in one year?
+

Yes, but all together must not exceed the 70-working-day limit per calendar year. That's why employers ask you about prior assignments.

What does "not occupational" mean?
+

Being employed short-term means: the job isn't your primary source of livelihood. As a student, pupil, on parental leave, or alongside a main job, this usually fits.

Does this income affect my BAföG?
+

Yes. Short-term employment also flows into the BAföG income calculation , above around €6,240 gross per year, your funding can be reduced.

What about health insurance?
+

During short-term employment you stay protected via your existing insurance (family insurance, student insurance, or main job). Short-term employment itself isn't subject to health-insurance contributions.
