How to Apply for a ZÜP: Step by Step

What is the ZÜP?

The Zuverlässigkeitsüberprüfung (ZÜP) is a statutory security check under § 7 of the Aviation Security Act, required if you want to work in the security zone of an airport. It is mandatory for all individuals, regardless of their role, including student temporary workers. The authority checks registers such as police and criminal records and decides whether you are considered reliable. If the result is positive, the ZÜP is normally valid for 5 years.

Who needs a ZÜP?

• All employees who require access to the security zones of an airport
• This covers jobs in retail (terminal shops), hospitality (lounges, catering), promotion and ground handling
• Student helpers and part-time workers also need a valid ZÜP

• Copy of ID (national identity card or passport)
• If applicable, proof of time spent abroad

Costs and duration

• Costs: ucm covers the entire cost of your security clearance. You don't have to pay anything yourself.
• Duration: Processing takes approximately 4–8 weeks from receipt of all documents.
• Validity: If the result is positive, the ZÜP is normally valid for 5 years. ucm takes care of renewal in good time.
